A Different Way to Learn
STEAM Box RI was created to challenge the traditional idea that every student learns the same way.
Instead of asking young people to fit into a predetermined path, we encourage them to discover what genuinely interests them and use those passions as the foundation for learning.
What began as an innovative educational initiative has grown into a youth-driven nonprofit organization where students build podcasts, develop technology projects, explore engineering and artificial intelligence, participate in leadership opportunities, engage in community initiatives, earn scholarships, secure internships, and even travel internationally to expand their perspectives.
While the projects themselves continue to evolve, the purpose remains the same: helping young people discover who they are and what they're capable of becoming.
Our Mission
The mission of STEAM Box RI is to develop equity in high-quality science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education designed to serve the whole student. Through collaboration with schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community partners, we create opportunities that prepare young people to become innovative, creative, critical, and analytical thinkers.

At STEAM Box RI, we believe meaningful learning doesn't begin with a textbook—it begins with a student's interests.
When young people are encouraged to pursue what genuinely excites them, they become more engaged, more motivated, and more willing to overcome challenges. As they take ownership of meaningful projects, they naturally develop the communication, leadership, technical, and critical thinking skills that prepare them for future success.

MEET OUR FOUNDER
Roberto Gonzalez
Roberto Gonzalez founded STEAM Box RI with a simple but powerful belief: young people achieve extraordinary things when they're trusted to pursue their passions and given the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful work.
Throughout his career as an educator, innovator, and mentor, Roberto has challenged traditional approaches to learning by creating environments where students become creators rather than consumers, leaders rather than followers, and active participants in shaping their own futures.
His educational philosophy—Passion. Ownership. Learning.—has inspired students to earn scholarships, secure internships, explore new cultures, launch community initiatives, and discover opportunities they never imagined possible.
Today, that philosophy continues to shape every aspect of STEAM Box RI.
Leadership Rooted in Experience
STEAM Box RI is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors whose experience spans education, engineering, healthcare, human resources, technology, finance, military service, and community leadership.
Uniquely, several board members are also STEAM Box alumni—a reflection of the organization's lasting impact and its commitment to developing the next generation of leaders.
Together, the Board provides strategic guidance, community connections, and a shared commitment to expanding opportunities for young people throughout Rhode Island.
